As human beings, we like to attribute societal trends and cultural shifts to a specific generation. Generation X, people born in the early to mids to early 80s, were influenced by the sexual revolution and ruled by the blowjob, while Millennials embraced anal sex. People now developing their sexual identity have been born into an era concentrated on social media and technology, where interaction can be confined to a computer or smartphone. Some experts conclude that this will lead to a lack of social skills, which in turn will cause the next generation to become less interested in penetrative sex with a partner and more focused on masturbation.

The sexuality of young people is a continuous fascination to the popular imagination as well as in sexuality research. The fascination contains a mixture of anxiety and nostalgia that clouds the self-evident observation that each adult — over a sexual lifetime spanning 50 years or more — extends the sexual adolescent that emerged with puberty. However, connecting the sexuality of early adolescence with elements of adult sexuality is difficult, despite a huge literature on adolescent sexuality. The sexuality of adolescents is not only seen as immature, but as being qualitatively distinct from the sexuality of adults. Exploration of the motivational and functional components of sexuality critical to understanding of adult sexuality — sexual desire, sexual arousal, and sexual function — is almost entirely missing. As a result, critical lacunae exist in understanding the continuum of sexuality development through the lifespan.
Less is known about the sexual health of young adults compared to adolescents, despite year olds' greater risk of unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. This paper provides information on college students' prior and current sexual practices, including oral sex, vaginal intercourse, anal intercourse, and masturbation. The sample consisted of non-Hispanic white, never-married students who identified as heterosexual. Twenty percent had ever engaged in anal intercourse.
Male masturbation is a widely talked about, joked about, and even bragged about subject, so why the double standards? Whilst it is a private and intimate topic, masturbation is certainly not something to be ashamed of. Considering we have multiple erogenous zones, which of those you choose to pay attention to is your call.
