This week our travels take us to nearly smack dab in the middle of the state of Illinois in the small town of Assumption, where racing machines driven by a laundry list of legends once roared on the track known as Motion Raceway. The story behind the creation of the Motion Raceway is an interesting one, as Assumption native John Jones, who had recently been discharged from the armed forces, had the idea to lay a strip of asphalt on a parcel of his land to allow locals a place to safely and legally race their vehicles. The track would have a coin-operated gate so that racers could come and go as they wished and race without getting in trouble with the law.

Flashback Friday: Assumption, Illinois’ Motion Raceway
Motion Raceway is a dragstrip that operated from until Route John Jones owned and operated Motion Raceway from its very beginnings. Operating from until its demise in , The track was originally a quarter-mile strip but moved to a 1,ft configuration when its 3,ft total length became insufficient. After the season, the track was closed, the stands were removed, as was the fuel island.
Some of them came to Hollywood after spending time in their native countries, such as Brazil, Cuba, or Spain. Others have been born and raised elsewhere and have parents and other family members who are descended from Latin American countries. The great thing is that these women have surpassed racial and ethnic stereotypes to become hard-hitting power players in Hollywood.
